Our Story
In 1995, Bet-z traveled to Costa Rica as a chaperone for a high school Spanish class trip. As part of a team-building exercise, the students chose to go whitewater rafting. Bet-z’s raft included six freshmen girls, a teacher, and a guide—the only one with any rafting experience.
Before launching, the guide emphasized the importance of teamwork, especially during the river’s most dangerous stretch. Throughout the trip, he calmly called out “Forward, please,” signaling everyone to paddle in sync.
As the rapids grew stronger, his instructions became louder and more urgent: “Forward, please! Forward, please!” But when they hit the most intense part of the river, the students panicked and stopped paddling. Only the teacher, the guide, and Bet-z kept going—now trying to do the work of eight.
Despite the guide’s increasingly frantic “Forward, please!” the raft flipped. Everyone was tossed into the river. Thankfully, no one was hurt, and each person was safely pulled back in. From that moment on, they paddled together—and finished the journey as a team.
Why the Name?
Fast forward to 2021. Bet-z and Nikki were brainstorming names for their nonprofit. While retelling this rafting story for the 856th time, Bet-z said the phrase “Forward, please”—and they both knew instantly: that was it. That phrase captured everything they hoped to build.Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, at mei dolore tritani repudiandae. In his nemore temporibus consequuntur, vim ad prima vivendum consetetur.
