about us
Walker’s Pint opened its doors in July 2001 in Milwaukee’s Walker’s Point neighborhood.
Founded by Elizabeth “Bet-z” Boenning, the bar quickly became known as a welcoming, women-forward space with sunlight, open windows, and an inclusive vibe—unlike the dark, windowless clubs of the past. Bet-Z, a former staff member at the now-closed lesbian bar Dish, wanted something different: a casual, visible, and affirming space for LGBTQ+ patrons and allies alike.
Her amazing staff members over the years have helped create the wonderful and welcoming space the Pint is today.
818 S. 2nd Street
Bet-Z transformed the space at 818 S. 2nd Street into more than just a watering hole. With cozy bar seating, a small stage for entertainment, an outdoor patio, and even a second bar in back, Walker’s Pint developed a reputation as a homey, lively neighborhood bar. It’s known for dart leagues, karaoke, DJs, drag shows, and its annual Scorpio Party—a nod to Bet-Z and many original staff members’ zodiac sign.

Over 2 Decades
Over two decades, Walker’s Pint became one of the last remaining lesbian bars in the country.
Bet-Z’s vision helped it survive shifts in LGBTQ+ nightlife and societal acceptance, as well as the COVID-19 pandemic. Its longevity can be credited to its inclusive culture and Bet-Z’s active role in supporting local fundraisers, political causes, and community events. The bar has raised tens of thousands for charity and partnered frequently with nearby Fluid for neighborhood happenings.
2021
In 2021, Walker’s Pint was featured in national media as one of about two dozen lesbian bars still operating in the U.S. The bar embraced the evolving definition of what a lesbian bar is—focusing on creating space for women, non-binary people, and others of marginalized genders. “I didn’t want to hide anymore,” Bet-Z said in an interview. “I wanted sunshine. I wanted people to feel welcome.”

For many, Walker’s Pint is more than just a bar—it’s a community.
As Bet-Z once said, “It’s the gay Cheers of women’s bars.” Her nonprofit, Forward Please, now helps extend the bar’s legacy of giving beyond its walls. With strong leadership, loyal patrons, and deep community ties, Walker’s Pint remains a cornerstone of LGBTQ+ life in Milwaukee.
